A striking antique English three-bottle tantalus by Betjemann’s, London, combining beautifully cut crystal with a richly figured dark wood case and aged metal fittings.

The tantalus was designed to secure valuable spirits while still allowing the decanters to remain on display—a wonderfully clever piece of Victorian entertaining history. This example retains all three substantial cut-crystal decanters with their faceted stoppers, housed within the original locking stand.

The metal locking mechanism is marked with the Betjemann’s Patent crown mark, London, and patent number 63519. The locking mechanism remains operational; however, the key is not present.

The piece measures approximately 15" long × 12" high × 6" deep.

Condition: Beautiful antique condition with age-appropriate wear and patina throughout. One decanter has a chip beneath the rim, shown in the photographs. There is also a small area of finish loss to one corner of the wooden base. Please review all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.

An exceptional display piece for a bar, library, study, or dining room—and one that is every bit as decorative as it is historically interesting.
