Published in Rouen by Mégard et Cie in 1858, Valentine d’Ormoies, Épisodes des guerres révolutionnaires by C. Barbier pairs a richly decorative binding with a story set during the revolutionary wars. A school prize inscription dated August 1860 adds a personal thread to its history.

A lovely accent for a collected library, writing desk, or display of treasured bindings. An accompanying postcard is included; its connection to the book’s earlier history is unknown.
