Czech Catholic Prayer Book with Ornate Cover & Tucked-In Keepsakes

A wonderfully decorative Czech-language prayer book with cream-colored pierced ornament over a dark fabric ground. Crosses and floral details adorn the front, framed by metal edging and accompanied by a chain closure.

Inside awaits a charming collection of prayer cards, delicate paper lace, colorful floral scraps, and gilt paper keepsakes—the little treasures preserved between its pages. Dates found on the enclosed cards range from 1914 to 1942; the book’s publication date is unconfirmed, and no title page was located.

Condition: The text block remains intact, but the inner hinges are separating from the covers, exposing the binding cloth. Pages show substantial age toning, scattered spotting, and some edge tears and losses. The decorative cover has cracks and small losses, with wear to the fabric, spine, and metal finish. Enclosed paper pieces also show age-related wear. Offered as found; handle gently.

Measurements: Approximately 5¼″ tall × 1¼″ thick.
