This poignant French sweetheart brooch features a tiny portrait photograph of a French soldier framed by delicate aluminum lily-of-the-valley blossoms and leaves, a floral motif symbolizing remembrance and the return of happiness. The photograph is protected beneath its original celluloid cover and secured by the original bent retaining prongs. The brooch retains its original period T-bar hinge and C-clasp.

Measuring 30 mm (approximately 1¼ inches) in diameter, this documented design is illustrated on page 317 of Jane Kimball's Trench Art: An Illustrated History, making it a fine reference example of commercially produced French wartime remembrance jewelry.

Condition: Very good antique condition with light age-related wear, an attractive aged patina to the aluminum frame, and expected toning to the period photograph and celluloid cover. The original pin assembly remains intact and functions as intended. Please review all photographs as they form part of the description.
